World March Information
We invite you to join the Australian Leg of the World-March for Peace and Non-Violence. This is a truly historical event which will turn the world into a celebration of magnificent proportions: the quest to create a new global consciousness around peace and non-violence that calls for the dismantling of nuclear arms, an end to war as a means of resolving conflict, and a universal rejection of all forms of violence (physical, economic, racial, sexual, and psychological, etc.).
The World March begun in New Zealand on October 2, 2009, the anniversary of Gandhi’s birth, declared the "International Day of Nonviolence" by the United Nations. It will conclude in the Andes Mountains (Punta de Vacas, Aconcagua, Argentina) on January 2, 2010. The March will last 90 days, three long months of travel. It will pass through all climates and seasons, from the hot summer of the tropics and the deserts, to the winter of Siberia. A base of a hundred people of different nationalities will complete the journey. The March arrived in Australia (Sydney) on October the 3rd, stayed one full day on the 4th and left on the 5th for Manila, The Philippines. |
THE AIMS FOR THE WORLD MARCH
To avoid a future nuclear catastrophe, we must demand our governments do all that is possible to facilitate:
• nuclear disarmament at a global level;
• the immediate withdrawal of invading troops from occupied territories;
• the progressive and proportional reduction of conventional weapons;
• the signing of non-aggression treaties between countries;
• the renunciation by governments of the use of war as a means to resolve conflicts.
It’s urgent to create a consciousness in favour of peace and disarmament, but it is also necessary to reject all forms of violence: economic, racial, psychological, religious, sexual, etc. The time has come to stand together and show our opposition. Join a multitude of others in sending a clear signal, and your voice will have to be heard!
The March was coordinated in Australia by the NGO "World Without Wars". This is a branch of the Spanish organisation "Mundo Sin Guerras y Sin Violencia". Following the march in Sydney, World Without Wars Australia is looking to organise chapters in every corner of Australia. World Without Wars is an open organisation, originated world wide by the current of thoughts subscribed as New Humanism or Universalist Humanism.
Main Points of New Humanism:
- placing the human being as the central value and concern,
- affirming the equality of all people and striving for truly equality of opportunity for all
- valuing personal and cultural diversity and condemning all forms of discrimination
- encouraging the development of knowledge beyond limitations accepted as "truths"
- affirming the freedom of ideas and beliefs
- rejecting all forms of violence, including economic, racial, religious, sexual and other forms of violence
